About the Author
Chuck was born in 1946 and raised in Naperville, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. He graduated from Conception Seminary College in 1968, but left his seminary studies at that point and began a 33-year teaching career in the Cleveland, Ohio.

a touching history

Very personal for me as one of the passengers killed was my grandmother. Growing up, I knew only a few details of this tragedy which changed my father, aunt, and grandfather's lives forever. I pray she didn't suffer. Rip, grandma Mary.

The Tragedy at Loomis Street Crossing

This is a well researched book about an incident on the Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad. The author obviously spent a significant amount of time tracking down and interviewing people who were involved in the accident, were there at the time or who knew someone involved. While it is a good analysis of the events that led up to the accident, it provides an excellent view into the lives of the people involved and how the accident changed their future. The book would be of particular interest to rail enthusiasts, but will also interest anyone who finds the effects of a tragic event on people lives fascinating. My only criticism is that, in my opinion, too much time was spent on relating the very early developmental history of area. While interesting, it added very little to the main theme of the book..

Well Researched Book

For those interested in this accident, this book goes into much detail of those who survived, those who for one reason or another missed this train, and those relatives of victims. It is too bad that this book did not come out many many years ago when the accident was fresher in ones memory.
